I would consider Jim Carrey's worldview to be New Age. In "The Real Jim Carrey" from Vimeo, pretty much everything he says lines up with this way of thinking, including the statement that he is "not a fragment of the universe, I (am) the universe." Carrey basically stated that everything in the physical world was a part of God and that he was also God. Carrey's point of view has a very individualistic look at spirituality, also drawing from Buddhist and other systems of teaching. According to the Hidden Worldview book, this is consistent with a New Age worldview, when "Eastern monism is fused with Western individualism...there is no single "right way" to gain access to the divine within."

I thnk that Jim Carrey does believe in the New Age way of thinking. In the first video, he states that "I am the universe." In the second video, he expands upon this, and essentially says that thoughts and feelings would exist in the universe without us, but we give ourselves names and religions and so on.

What do you think he means by "I am the universe"?

I think he means that his "soul," and everyone else's, is attached to the universe. Everyone's soul is created by the exact same matter and emotions that everything else in the universe is made of.

I chose option 2 for this assignment and to me it following what the book describes as a new age worldview the movie The Mask would fit under this worldview. The movie involves a man who finds a mask and he is a completely normal individual before the mask, but begins to gain supernatural powers once the mask is applied which is believed to be the power of a God, at the same time this mask seems to turn him into a God of the sorts. Following this he begins to bad things as well as good things and getting better with his people skills leading to a balance between positive and negative forces.

The movie Wrinkle in Time (2018) is one that is a good movie from just a general point of view but upon closer inspection, there is a new age worldview cast to it. The reason that there seems to be a worldview of new age movement is because throughout the movie, there is several quotes or references about how the light must overpower the dark and that power to overcome the dark is found within yourself. Steven Wilkens and Mark Sanford talks about how the new age movement is very much about the right side of the brain, the Gnosis (Hidden Worldview, 2009, page 125). The gnosis is where the creative juices and intuitive part of our brain is developed, and where our higher self is located. The higher self according to Wilkens and Sanford is where our mind exists beyond what is material (Hidden Worldview, 2009, page 125). The movie Wrinkle in Time (2018) is very much about embracing the inner you and using that to face the challenges that are presented in the movie. In the end, the protagonist will overcome these struggles because she has become one with the universe around her and has fully embraced her inner self.

Yes. I consider that Jim Carrey's way of thinking as the New Age. In the first video entitled "The Real Jim Carrey", he states that he is the universe. On the other hand in the second video, I think Jim shows us a spiritual awakening, where we start the basis of perception beyond our physical and mental construction. "This personal spiritual attunement is seen as a harbinger of a universal New Age" (Wilkens & Sanford, 2009, p.121). In addition, everyone knows him and they see him as a character not like Jim Carey because nobody knows who Jim Carey really is. In this world, Jim Carey does not exist.

In the way he thinks and the way he expresses himself in the two videos, I think Jim Carrey believes in New Age. In the first video, Jim Carrey says "I am not longer fragment of the universe, I am the universe." On the other hand, the book Hidden Worldviews says "New Age, the true reality is that is one and all is divine." (Wilkens & Sanford, 2009, Page 134.) In the second video, I think Jim tries to make us see the universe in a different way. However, he says that for the world Jim carrey does not really exist. In addition, Jim Carrey adds qua we give each other names, different religions, and nationality. Hidden Worldviews says "No one can prove or disprove the rightness of any New Age practice for another person because no one lives the experience of another person." (Wilkens & Sanford, 2009, Page 127),

After reading about New Age and viewing the videos I would say that Jim Carrey’s worldview is New Age. Wilkens suggest that a “general description of the New Age movement’s aim is that endeavors to help individuals recognize their inner divinity” (2009, p.121). This description means that New Age is about looking deep into ourselves, and trying to find what make us one with the world or community, our purpose, and many other things. It is similar to what Jim Carrey describes or tries to implement in the videos. We need to search for our truly inner self, to become one, to search for what really makes us happy instead of what we think it might make us happy, and get rid of that persona that we are not.

I really like how you worded the statement "He talks about how being an actor and how people game him a name, a religion, and role to play and that slowly became him and not Jim Carrey." Would you say that Carrey then found his identity in what he deemed important or in what other people deemed important?

Jim Carrey I believe is a New Age follower. New age is defined to us as one trying to find their own personal divinity, which in the first video about Jim Carrey he says “I am the universe.” (The Real Jim Carrey). We are also told that “New Age consumers should mix and match until they find the formula that is right for them” (Wilkens & Sanford, 2009, p.123). I believe that Jim Carrey does this throughout both videos showing that he just picks what he wants to believe from different religions.

After watching both videos I can say that Jim Carrey has a New Age worldview. The book refers to the New Age view as "personal spiritual enlightenment and peace" (wilkens and Sanford, 2009, p.121) and that's what Jim Carrey has along with discovering his higher-self. He identifies himself as the universe and not just apart of it. He also contributes his spirituality to what he does rather than a traditional religion.

I believe that Jim Carrey’s worldview is New Age. Everything he mentions in “What Really Exists” goes along with with what the Wilkens book says. On page 121 in the Wilkens book it says “New Agee’s believe that organized religion has been too exclusive, and that media, politics and culture in general have lost their souls.” This goes directly along with how Jim Carrey was explaining that through acting, he realizes how little his own personality is. That the real Jim Carrey doesn’t really exists. That the ‘Green Room’ really is real, and that’s where everything does take place.

I believe Jim Carrey's worldview to be new age. I believe this because in the first video he mentions that he himself is the universe. Also that he felt bigger than his body and in charge. In Wilken's book it mentions that "New Age relegates the physical to the category of nonexistence or absorbs it into a divine force that is the only true reality" (pg.127). I think this means that what we think is true will be true.

Jim Carrey sees himself as at a new age worldview. he seems himself in another level in the universe, not just being in it, but being a part of it in a higher order. the book describes new age as the havingpersonal enlightenment and inner peace nd thats exactly what her is trying to achieve(Wilkens & Sanford, 2009, p.123).DisneyMovieTrailers. I believe that Jim Carrey believes in "The New Age." He mentions that in the video that he is the universe. He had a lot of different feelings and he even stated that he felt as if he was bigger than himself. “New Agee’s believe that organized religion has been too exclusive, and that media, politics and culture in general have lost their souls." (Wilkens,, pg. 121.)
